Google to open German centre for AI development
Google will open a new AI centre in Berlin to support artificial intelligence development and collaboration between startups and research institutions. The facility is part of Google’s €5.5 billion investment in Germany aimed at strengthening cloud infrastructure and advancing AI innovation in Europe.

Google opened an artificial intelligence centre in Berlin on Thursday, highlighting Europe’s increasing reliance on U.S. technology companies for advanced innovations, even as the region seeks to catch up with global competitors.
According to Germany’s Ministry for Digital Affairs, the new facility will combine cloud computing and data infrastructure with dedicated operations for AI development. It will also provide a collaborative environment where start-ups and research institutions can work together on artificial intelligence projects.
Europe continues to face challenges in closing the gap in the global AI race, as both the United States and China invest heavily in the technology and develop some of the most advanced AI models powering the sector.
The Berlin AI centre forms part of Google’s broader €5.5 billion ($6.4 billion) investment initiative in Germany announced in November, which also includes plans for a new data centre to strengthen digital infrastructure in the country
