OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5.3 Instant : Major Update for More Helpful, Accurate ChatGPT Conversations
OpenAI has released GPT-5.3 Instant, an update to ChatGPT’s most-used model focused on smoother conversations, fewer unnecessary refusals and improved factual accuracy. The model delivers better web-based answers, reduces hallucinations by up to 26.8% in high-stakes domains and offers a more natural, consistent tone. It is available now to all ChatGPT users and via API as “gpt-5.3-chat-latest.”

OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5.3 Instant, a significant update to the most widely used model powering ChatGPT. The upgrade is designed to make everyday interactions more natural, accurate and relevant by directly addressing key issues users have flagged in earlier versions.
GPT-5.3 Instant focuses on improving the aspects of the ChatGPT experience users notice most tone, relevance and conversational flow even when those improvements may not show up in traditional benchmark tests.
Fewer Unnecessary Refusals and Clearer Answers
One of the most visible changes in GPT-5.3 Instant is its improved handling of user queries that previous versions, like GPT-5.2 Instant, sometimes declined or responded to with overly cautious introductions. The new model reduces unnecessary refusals and cuts down defensive or moralizing preambles, providing direct, focused answers when a question can safely and helpfully be addressed.
Stronger Web-Based Context and Better Synthesis
When pulling information from the web, GPT-5.3 Instant now balances online data with the model’s internal knowledge and reasoning, rather than simply summarizing search results or listing links. This change helps deliver more relevant and immediately usable answers, especially on topics that depend on current information.
More Natural Conversational Style
The update also refines ChatGPT’s conversational tone to feel more natural and less scripted. Feedback had highlighted that earlier versions could sound overly personable or assumptive in certain contexts. GPT-5.3 Instant scales back on phrases and styles users described as unnecessary or distracting, while making tone more consistent across interactions.
Improved Accuracy and Reduced Hallucinations
OpenAI says GPT-5.3 Instant delivers stronger factual accuracy, with internal evaluation tests showing a significant drop in hallucination rates compared with previous models:
- 26.8% fewer hallucinations when using web results
- 19.7% fewer hallucinations relying on internal knowledge
In user feedback-based evaluations, hallucinations decreased by 22.5% with web use and 9.6% without.
These improvements are especially notable in higher-stakes areas such as medicine, finance and law.
Enhanced Writing Capabilities
Beyond practical Q&A, GPT-5.3 Instant is also a better writing assistant. The update strengthens the model’s ability to produce more expressive, coherent and detailed prose, whether for creative writing, storytelling or professional content.
Known Limitations
OpenAI acknowledges that some non-English languages such as Japanese and Korean may still produce less natural responses and that further improvements to tone customization remain underway.
Availability and Transition Timeline
GPT-5.3 Instant is available immediately to all ChatGPT users and accessible to developers through the API under the name gpt-5.3-chat-latest. Updates to ChatGPT’s Thinking and Pro models are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
The previous model, GPT-5.2 Instant, will remain available to paid users in the Legacy Models section for three months before being retired on June 3, 2026.
