Google Expands Gemini AI for Smart Homes to 16 New Countries and Multiple Languages
Google has begun a major global rollout of its Gemini-powered smart home assistant, expanding the feature to 16 additional countries across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and adding support for multiple new languages. The rollout, delivered through the Google Home Early Access program, enables users with compatible smart speakers and displays to interact with their devices using Gemini’s more advanced conversational AI. Newly supported markets include the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Japan and New Zealand, among others, while languages such as French, German, Italian, Japanese, Dutch and Spanish are now supported. The update also introduces improvements like faster voice command processing and new AI capabilities for devices such as Nest cameras, reflecting Google’s broader strategy to replace its traditional assistant with the more advanced Gemini AI platform and expand AI-driven home automation globally

Google has begun a wider global rollout of its AI-powered home assistant built on Gemini, expanding availability to 16 additional countries and introducing support for seven more languages. The move marks one of the largest expansions yet for Gemini within the company’s smart-home ecosystem and signals Google’s push to strengthen AI integration across connected devices.
The rollout is being delivered through the Google Home Early Access program and will gradually reach eligible users over the course of about a week.
Gemini for Home Expands to More Countries
The latest expansion makes Gemini available for smart-home users across several regions in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. Newly supported countries include:
Europe
- Austria
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Ireland
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
Asia-Pacific
- Australia
- Japan
- New Zealand
According to the company, the rollout will begin immediately and continue progressively as eligible users receive access through the Early Access program.
New Language Support
Alongside the geographic expansion, Google is also increasing language support to make Gemini accessible to more households worldwide.
The newly supported languages include:
- Danish
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Norwegian
- Spanish
- Swedish
The broader language coverage is intended to improve usability for international users and enable natural interactions with smart-home devices across different regions.
Access Requires Google Home Early Access Program
Despite the broader availability, the feature is not yet open to all users by default. To access Gemini-powered capabilities in the smart-home environment, users must join the Google Home Early Access program.
Eligible users may receive invitations directly inside the Google Home app. Once enrolled, they can activate Gemini’s AI features to interact with compatible smart speakers, displays and connected devices.
Faster Voice Commands and Improved Interactions
The global expansion follows a series of recent updates aimed at improving the AI assistant’s performance within smart homes.
During March alone, Google released multiple upgrades to Gemini for Home. One update improved voice command processing speeds by up to 40 percent, helping interactions feel faster and more responsive. Another update focused on making everyday commands more natural when controlling smart-home devices.
Google also expanded support for child accounts, allowing families to use AI-powered voice interactions across shared devices.
New AI Feature for Nest Cameras
For users with compatible smart-home hardware such as Google Nest Cam devices, Google has introduced an additional capability called Live Camera Search.
This feature allows subscribers to the Home Premium plan to search camera feeds in real time using AI. Instead of manually scrolling through recordings, users can ask Gemini to locate specific events captured by the camera system.
Continued Development Expected
Although the latest rollout significantly increases the reach of Gemini within the smart-home ecosystem, several major markets are still not included in the current expansion. Google has indicated that further updates and improvements are expected as the company gathers feedback from the newly added regions.
By extending Gemini to more homes and languages, Google is seeking to accelerate adoption of AI-driven home automation and refine the experience based on real-world usage.
The expansion also reflects the broader industry trend of embedding advanced AI assistants directly into everyday consumer devices, turning smart homes into one of the next major battlegrounds for AI platforms.
